Top rated RPM is 3200 (my mistake, I thought it was 3500)
Max RPM in neutral is 3200. I believe it is governed.
I hit 3200 RPM on plane at about 22-23 knots..... |

If max rpm in neutral is 3200 and max rpm in gear is 3200, then you may be way underpropped and engine is being held back by governor. And yes, all diesels are governed. I thought those 6.5´s ran up..... |

My manual tells me after cool down to race my motor in neutral a few times just before shut down. How high do you go and how long for each burst? Is it really helpful dose it blow off carbon etc? |

Just guessing without a schematic. Going off your description, the starter battery is directly tied to the alternator provided the switch is closed. And the other two batteries go through the isolat..... |

No risk to alternator, provided there is somewhere for output to go, and going to a battery through an isolator provides that. So try it and see if alternator wakes up and starts charging. Some alte..... |

If I leave the white link in the system then if the house or thruster bank is low then they will get current from the start battery when the engine..... |

Good point!! I didn´t think of that. House then will discharge starter bank through link and isolator. Pull the link and try it. |

Well a big surprise! I took off the white wire and you guessed it, no voltage out of the alternator. Put it back and 14 volts so it looks like the 22SI is not self exciting or the remote sense ..... |

I just had similar issue. I ran the excite lead to a normally closed 7lb preasure switch. I plumbed it into my fuel system. The switch close´s at 7lbs and turns on altenator. If engine is not running ..... |

Take a good hard look at your 22SI. There may be a remote sensing terminal on it, maybe not but it´s worth a look. I believe some of them had this.

Howard- Colin´s advice is good and should work on your boat. Relay based combiners (I guess that is what a VSR is) have no voltage drop and ONLY combine batteries after the alternator has brought up ..... |

Just cut the tube and peel it away, so to say.... Takes about 10 minutes in the shop.. Another Cummins design that only lasted a few months before it was X-ed.. To bad, Recon picked it up...

Simply pulling the throttle back a little bit will do the same thing. No need to replace the injectors to get better economy. Either big or small injectors will be controlled by the governor to main..... |

When you say #1 cylinder toasted I assume you mean scored/siezed/damaged. If yes - That is where your high cc pressure comes from.

Yes, scored rings and cylinder wall.
