Cracks anywhere near the hub are usually not repairable. The stresses are high there and welding does not restore original casting strength. Can you post photos? |

Yes, crank pulley is where you want to measure. That is the engine rpm, same as helm tachs show. You can put the tape anywhere on that pulley, all it must do is be visible to the phototach once per r..... |

Can´t help you specifically but they are most likely 8.8 and NOT SS.
The grade should be stamped into the head top. 8.8, 10.9, or 12.9 is typical metric marking.

From the engine standpoint, it all sounds pretty good to me. So the issues could be -faulty fuel measurement, dirty air filter or bad RPM gauge. |

the amount of fuel you are talking about is quite small. As your vessel approaches hull speed the amount of fuel burned goes up considerably. the slightest difference in engine RPM will make a treme..... |

For that boot to blow off sounds like you have a restriction downstream on the raw water side causing higher than normal pressure causing boot to blow off. Remove zinc at h/e and install pressure gaug..... |
