Thank you very much, tony. I guess it can be said that these 6LP-STEs are great engines. All you have to do is fix them. We are searching for a more reliable Cummins B series. We would like to find so..... |

Hi
This winter I will have a 6LP restored, including reboring of cylinders. This calls for new pistons, that are ridicolously expensive here in europe.
It is quite common here to have pistons spe..... |

Hi Erik,
I believe the reason for the inverted dome in the pistons is to make room for the valves when the piston in top.
Maybe it also has something to with the flow inside the cylinder, but this..... |

The piston is probably the most highly engineered part on a modern high output diesel. The bowl is the combustion chamber, and its shape is critical. Cast in lube oil passages cool the top ring area..... |

Erik,
The shape of the top of the Yanmar piston is absolutely critical to combustion, known as quiescent chamber, and closely linked to injector spray pattern and pop pressure.

As I understand there is one 1HD piston that is the same but it´s 17 1/2 to 1 and the Yanmar piston is 16 1/2 to one, so you would need to cut the piston. There seems to be no free lunch. |

Paul, what would that do if you used the higher compression piston´s without cutting it. As I also heard some one used a Toyota long block and put the Yanmar hang ons and he said it ran fine. |
