I went through the same thing and had an oil sample done when I bought my boat & then again at 50 hours after an oil change.

What a single oil sample is really good for is showing if the is fuel, coolant or seawater in the oil, all of which are problems in need of attention - what it won´t do is tell you much about the inte..... |

yup wasted $$dough$$ on an oil sample.
Of course, being new to used diesel ownership...I had an oil sample done before I bought my Blackfin with used (550 hr.) 6BTA 370s.
Oil analysis came back OK...... |

Yes, a "Tony Athens" term!
I roasted a 6B 370 Aug 08 do to marine age. 2 bolts snapped off the belt idler pulley, lost the engine coolant..Poof!

OK, you could .. but why? Getting the salt water out and the fresh water in is what is important. If you have salt and mineral built up, this may help clean a little of it out, but it won´t clean 5 ..... |

I use saltaway to rinse my boat ,it eliminates salt buildup and film its pretty amazing. On a old heavy caked crusty buildup it does not do much. |

Don´t overlook a battery just starting to get weak. I have been there many times with 6BTs in trucks. The battery can test "good" by a conventional mechanics load tester, but be weak enough ..... |

Yes the engine battery starts both engines is fairly new and in listing seems to turn both engines the same. The starboard engine starts easy even when faily cold. |

If you want to eliminate cranking speed as the culprit, there is really only one way.. Pull the fuel solenoid circuit, be ready to strobe the engine, and crank it-----------150 or more RPM is the numb..... |

B is an easy starting direct injection engine, I do not have spec to hand as you have not posted your CPL but so I cannot quote your spec for unaided cold start ..... |

Look at the picture... You have an "oil block" that is easy to "T" in to.. Remember, NO cheesy brass fitting--use only hydraulic quality fittings..

Stator can be tested using a good quality digital ohm meter, but you really need to be well versed in ac electrical machines, and have a manual to make a conclusive diagnosis.

The D terminal is the warning wire and also the exiter wire. When the ignition is on and engine not running, the D terminal is -12v (negative) and is the negative for the battery warning ligh..... |

Bill don´t know anyting about the engine, but you are right it is a re-power. Chris Craft built (marinized) all its own gas engines until about 1979. |

The Yanmar filter cartridge should last for years.. It will not degrade with time.. Go fishing and don´t worry. you´ll be fine..

You have the best fuel going to the Yanmar filter, and yes the filter will not degrade for years. But keep in mind as the engine is not used or stored the Yanmar filter is little difference than the ..... |
