BOATDIESEL FORUMS POWERTRAIN Marine Diesel Engines MAN MAN:D28 Series
TOPIC DETAIL
Topic:  Valve failure MAN D28 series

 Originator: Steve B Guest Guest Date:  23 February, 2009 - 08:43 PM
While cruising @ 1800 rpm, my port engine(series D2842LE406 1200 HP ) swallowed a valve on the #1 piston and damaged the cylinder head. After disassembly of that bank the #6 piston and cylinder head were also found to be damaged, as well as the turbo. Independent valve analysis showed cause of failure to be improper choice of
material. The engines have less than 1000 hours. Has anyone else had this problem?
