Topic:  8-92 Overhaul

I´m planning to do a compression overhaul on one of my 8-92 TA engines next month. I´d like to get some feedback from mechanics with much more experience than I have. These engines are run anywhere btwn 1300&1500 80% of the time, balance run @ 1750-1800 app 800 hrs per season. This application is on a 85 ft headboat with two of these engines. Obviously these units were not designed to run continusly at these low speeds.High fuel prices and business being slow have taken precedence over everything else.I´m considering using the 18-1 comp dome this time as we have been plagued with stuck rings since these engines were new in 1990.These are twin dry turbo engines, 115 inj.and converted to aftercoolers, following numerous intercooler failures.I´m familiar with the comp ratio being effectivly raised due to the turbo boost pressure, but with a self imposed limit of 1800, I´m hoping this is a good comprise with the advantage of better starting, less smoke and less ring problems. Any advice or comments appreciated. Thanks, BP
