Level-1 Member Jamie   I have recently swapped a ms4 transmission for a hs1A,. My old ms4 supplied the water for my drip less shaft seal but the new hs1 is a different beast, Does anybody know where i should tap into for the drip less?

Level-1 Member Angler2184   I have a NL gen set and i have water entering my heat exchanger and pouring out of the coolant overflow bottle. The mechanic says I need a new heat exchanger. From what I read the whole core doesnt usually go bad, is there an easier fix?? Thanks

#3 Level-2 Member Mds   You could pay your mechanic for 2 service calls or just one. Have the mechanic bring a new heat exchanger, new end caps and clamps. Replace it and not worry about it until your next raw water service. Also its a great time to upgrade the exhaust elbo.....

#4 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   Tighten the hose clamps on the most forward end and the most aft end of the HX boots. Those clamps tighten to form the seal between sea water and coolant, and often loosen and leak over time. If you tighten them and leak stops, then that is the pro.....

#1 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   Frustrating I´m sure. If you are losing coolant without external leaks visible, then you may have a cracked cylinder head, bad head gasket, leaking exhaust manifold, or leaking turbo gasket. Any of those can introduce air into the coolant flow path.....

#2 Level-1 Member Tomas Kempe   Before you take it apart, try aluma seal (a powder you put into the coolants) if the leak is minor and see if you can stop the coolant loss. If you have access to exhaust, check how much water is coming though and see how it matches to pump spec. You.....

#1 Forums Moderator Mike.c   Bill, there is an oil seal to prevent passing of engine oil used to lubricate pumps gears. Remove pump and either get it rebuilt or do it youself. Contact your local volvo diesel dealer for rebuild or parts, it is better to take care of now before.....

#6 Level-1 Member David DiSesa   How about trying this. The pressure should be about 150 lb. I would set the pressure up and try it. I think you might be getting a little clutch slip and heating up the oil. I have seen The Mh SLIP @ 125 TO 130 LB. You are not much above that range. .....

#10 Level-2 Member Mds   Your local Detroit dealer can supply you with a new filter head for the transmission to accept a spin on filter. These are not cheep but they make the service much easier and do a better job of sealing compared to the paper gasket needed on the canis.....

#12 Level-2 Member Mds   I would imagine that the particles found in the screen were black and from the clutches which would be normal, but if you found metal shavings or could distinguish these shavings as parts of ball bearings or cage material from the bearings then enoug.....

#17 Level-1 Member Bertram46   I spoke to Brian with Acadian the Allison guru and he seems to agree that we should consider changing the warning sender to 215-220 degrees as we are within tolerance at 200 and should not hurt the tran at that temp. When i did the tran fluid changes.....

#1 Forums Moderator Mike.c   Stephen, i am not positive, i do not have manuals home, but is there two black rubber hoses cap off around bottom side of engine ? One for draing block other for draining oil cooler. Access is limited to regular drain on your engine. Check and se.....

#3 Forums Moderator Mike.c   Steve, there is a drain plug on bottom of turbo, but that will not allow the block to empty. I think it is time to get in a good working position and take you time to remove all necessary parts to get at block drain.you could remove turbo top cool.....

#1 Level-1 Member Skag   re: External Strainers If you have the room, install internal strainers as well. If you do get junk through the external screen it will accumulate on the bottom tubesheet of your aftercooler - not very easy to clean out. I´ve chosen to go with j.....

#1 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   Tom- 80 to 85c is fine. If it heads toward 90, back off the power a little. Also note: regarding the delta t on the hx. Heat rejection rate in btu/min is a function of delta t AND flow rate. As thermostat opens, flow rate goes up and delta t .....

#3 Level-1 Member Tomas Kempe   Let me conclude this post with an update. I measured the water coming out of exhaust at about 1800 rpm to be 2 gallons/min. That is way off from pump spec that should be around 6 gal/min. I did heat exchanger acid wash, removed sot/rust in the riser,.....

#1 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   Contact Glendinning (sp) in SC. They make the syncronizers, etc. They also make tach adapters that fit a 3208. The problem is that the drive hole in the injection pump gear DOES NOT line up exactly with the tach cable fitting on the timing gear .....

#27 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   The stator slides off the rotor. The rotor remains bolted to the flywheel. The bearing on the end of the rotor is a slight press fit in the end of the stator. So it takes some prying to get it to move the first 3/4 inch. Once the stator is loose .....

#29 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   If you can leave stator on, then leave it on. Just roll the whole critter on its side or whatever so you can get pan and rod bolts off. I don´t know if head has enough "meat" around valve seats for it to be bored and a seat pressed in. .....

#31 Level-3 Member Ski in NC   Check all three rods for bends or twists on a machinist´s flat plate. Also measure length from big end to small end with calipers. If bent, replace. If no bend or twist I´d be tempted to reuse rod even if 0.010´ short...it should not matter consid.....

Level-1 Member Electric Easel   On a sea trial with a 42C Hatteras with 1976 Cummins VT903M (1685 Hrs) 400 HP@2600 RPM. I ran the boat to max 2600 Rpm a lot of brown smoke out of one of the motors. Motor temp at motor 177 and gauge at bridge 180. A lot of pressure and the motor shu.....

Level-1 Member Barry   I am running a Volvo TMD22 engine which has a turbo charger. When I increase the revs to over 3500 (4500 is max) dark smoke immediately starts to come from the exhaust and then the engine slowly starts to overheat. If I reduce the revs back to below .....

#2 Level-3 Member Dick V   Two problems. Have turbo boost pressure checked. Black smoke is to much fuel or not enough air or an overload condition. Overeating could be flow issue or heat exchanger not transfering enough heat. Get a temp gun and check in and out flow on heat ex.....

Level-1 Member Ladd   My Perkins M80T now after idling for 5 to 10 minutes upon acceleration produces a cloud of blue/white oil smoke. after belching this cloud of smoke it seems to run clean. Engine starts instantly, runs smooth, and strong. injectors have just been flow.....
