I have a Yanmar SB8 in a Hunter 27 Sailboat.
Problem: Engine will not continue running with prop shaft engaged at less than 1500..... |

Smokey, and if I ever had to run the "1 hour out of 8" @ 3000 rpm, I´d be WAY more comfortable doing that propped @ 3150 WOT...."comfort zone", EGT, boost etc.

Suggest you go to an autoparts store and simply buy sheets of gasket paper of the appropriate thickness. Take the gasket from your good running spare kit and trace it on the raw stock. Cut..... |

Limited for now ... 200 hrs per year ... summers only. I would be moving the boat to Maine where I´m able to spend time on it daily ... but that is still limited to 3 months of the year while the kid..... |

Those 12v71´s can run for years even in a somewhat degraded condition...depending on what is wrong with it. Post what is found in the survey.

Scanned through survey. Looks like the biggest issue is a bad top ring on one piston. And alot of old hoses, leaks etc. Rear seal leak is a big job to fix (gear has to come out) but often that leak..... |

My concern will be with the higher compression in relation to air box pressure. Higher compression and air box pressure on a turbo´d detroit wont help that top ring. |

Higher CR means higher temp at top ring. But it will burn cleaner. If you increase CR definitely go with smaller injectors. 115 (probably the 9215??) is pretty big for low load running. Might not ..... |

The coolant is very important as Rws states. It might not be in the manual but on the 6LP you need to change it every year or 250 hours. Make sure you get the right stuff, you won´t find it at a aut..... |

you can find the coolant in auto parts stores. you can probably find it at a K mart.
all it is is GM "dexcool" and a few different coolant brands make it,
it is a "ELC" cool..... |

I am not a fan of using Loctite in this type of situation.. But, if they are tightened up properly, and then they come loose for no apparent reason, then maybe that´s what it will take with ..... |

Frank- there should be a 1/8, or 1/4" pipe plug in the riser dry section[ on a stock cummins riser, this will be directly adajacent to the riser mount flange]
