I was looking at several trawlers yesterday. Most had the Vertical 6 cylinder Perkins 6.354. One boat had the same engine laid on its side. It looks like it was made that way to reduce the height..... |

Perkins HT6.354 was made that way.
Biggest flaw is the sea water cooled exhaust manifold, however this applies to vertical motors also, exept on HT motors all hidden from view.

Looks like you spend quite a bit of time grinding out the old, welding up the damage, welding some more, and then remachining.... Welding up dirty cast aluminun is no easy task. A much neede..... |

Info is shetchy, although there is (or was) some in the library on this site.
My suggestion would be stay away UNLESS you have a very fat wallet and are your own mechanic with lots of time and expe..... |

John, something I should have noted on my first post: if your turbo is frozen by rust you should first determine where the moisture is coming from and take care of that before doing a rebuild or repla..... |
