Motor is definitely saveable. You need a fresh battery, a functioning starter, test leads with alligator clips, a jug of fuel, squeeze bulb line, and tools to pull injectors. Don´t worry about alter..... |

To pull injectors you need a 17mm open end for fuel lines, 10mm open or combo for return lines, and I think a 22mm deepwell socket for the injector hold down nut (anyone confirm, I´m away from my shop..... |

Guys having trouble finding the part # for the 4 bt starter. I have a starter from a 5.9 in the back of my shed looks close will it work? If not were can I find the part # for this starter. |

I´m guessing, but the 6b starter should fit. Should be the same flywheel and housing.
Edit: If the 6b starter is from a dodge truck, that is probably different. |

Overfilling those engines can cause it to puke out of the breather tube.

I have a pair of 6B330´s. What is the best way to keep track of fuel consumption. Are there electronic gauges for these engines or are flo scans the answer? |

You can install FLOSCANS. I have found that for my boat (Luhrs 32´) the published fuel burn numbers seem pretty accurate. |

Tony serviced mine (because I attempted it) mine had a leak around the O ring from a previous improper service. The corrosion locked the core in there to the point where I had to "beat" the ..... |

The ´O´ rings required, depending on which cap you have, may be two different size..... |

Al,
Your Borel alarm is a good way to check for seawater flow but does nothing for you if you lose a belt, an idler bearing, coolant hose, or your coolant............Add two more coolant switches ..... |

The idiot light takes care of the idler and belt issue.
The temp switch will catch a slow leak that causes the system´s capacity to drop below the amount needed to dump the heat to the raw water,..... |

Is this the mechanical sync box with rotating tach cables? If so, there is no adjustment. It (usually) either works accurately, or not at all. Problem is likely something in the mechanically driven..... |

No this is a electronic sync, I think the problem is with the engine tach. I think these cummins 6bta´s pick up the tach off the alternator. The sync is wired into both engine tachs comming o..... |

That sounds adequate.
I suspect that my alternator (non-replaced engine) may be bad as it doesn´t appear to be charging the batteries when running. My volt meter on the upper station seems to cycl..... |

depending on it´s age, you might want to consider buying a new alternator from Tony.
(get new bearings etc.)

Can you look up a good Alternator/Starter rebuilding shop in your area. Certainly there has to be one. Then you would retain the OE hard parts and know the fitment is right. You could also have them b..... |

I am replacing the 72C V-drive on my 1992 6BT5.9 Cummins, engine serial number 44762059.
While the engine and transmission are out, I may as well replace the damper plate.
It rattled a little at idl..... |

The failure was from the tension assembly and not the idler pulley. I was told by my Cummins dealer, who did the previous work ..... |

Perhaps when the last mechanic installed the tensioner, the locating dowel was not in the hole, and the whole assembly moved thus shearing off the dowel pin as it grabbed the edge of the hole, and in ..... |

Look at the rear face of the tensioner, does it have scuff or wear marks on it , is it shiny in places, if it does it was most likely loose, if it looks nearly new, even colouring across the face, it ..... |

They are great engines, but, it is all about how they were maintained. Get a good diesel survey done. Pay for it now, so you don´t pay a lot later. I wouldn´t worry about a oil analysis, without a..... |
