Have a weird oil pressure problem.
My oil pressure drops to 27 lbs or below after about 100 hours on an oil change.
Tried 3 oils all the same, Mobile Delvax-m,Cummins,Valvoline. Have both a mechanic..... |

No problem at low RPM never has approached 10 sits around 20. failure occurs after engine has heated up 190-200 degrees. I too suspect relief valve. If I have to pull engine I will either rebuild it o..... |

Interesting. You seem to be fine at 20 psi that I also have. You refer to oil temp at 200F? I stay there also.
No big deal to change pressure relief valve as long as you can get underneath engine.

Can not get under it. Have to pull engine. I´ll check for foaming. 40 W is ok for summer We lobster all year . will not work during fall. Nov thru april i have block heater plugged in so 40 will work ..... |

Bruce, no reset. More likely that the foam settle, if that is what it is and at idle not much foam, with some excess oil it has been reported before that it can lower pressure - the full story is not ..... |

When i shut down engine and restart the oil pressure return to normal 40 lbs. Yes I have both a mechanical and 2 electric pressure gauges they all show the same. |

This might not apply but we had an 270 HP 855 CI cummins a 1973 dump. The engine ran fine but, the oil pressure dropped and we took it to cummins for a rebuild. The old time mechanic came out to see t..... |

I had the exact same problem with my last QSM 11. After an oil change, oil pressure was at its normal 40 psi,..stayed like this for between 100 and 120 hrs then gradually dropped to 27-28 psi and the ..... |

On a later cpl 635hp engine it is located in front of the cross over from after-cooler to engine, right side. If you look carefully, may need a mirror, you will see part number on it. I think it is an..... |

Have you ruled out the turbo as a cause of this, since Cummins see nothing wrong. A bad sensor would show up on the test I assume. Good luck if you need an electrician if Cummins is lost. |

Does not hurt. Your intermittent thing (would not indicate mechanical as turbo I think) could indicate loose connections and Tony advice to dip in corrosion X or using WD40 on them. |

Have high intake manifold Temp. (only when above 1900 rpm.) No alarm .Temp runs 120 to 122. Any ideas? Engine is a QSM11-M with a little 10 K hours. All other reading within range. Its in a Lobster bo..... |

Manual sez 120 is max. Cleaned aftercooler last week. Turbo pressure is fine 60+ at WOT. |

Can you change temp sensor between engines or get a new one. One ref would be to shoot the cross-over with IR and see if any difference. I think the temp probe is shut. If you have a single engine ge..... |
